The South Island – 14th Jan

In 1770 The Endeavour arrived at “a very broad and deep bay or inlet”. Cook had sailed his ship into the South Island of New Zealand. He named the inlet Queen Charlotte’s Sound. He took formal ownership of the land and met with Maori people and they traded for fish and vegetables.
