Burning Questions

1. We discussed how we are God’s fame and He is ours. Have you ever been in a situation where you are applauded for your ministry and had to fight back the idol of pride? Ever been tempted to believe your own press? It’s okay to admit it! Your testimony will help others in their resolve!

I use to live in Auckland and once when I was there I patted myself in public for serving morning tea (it was my regular ministry. I felt I should be thanked. And as no one else was doing it. I did). The room went very quiet. No one said a thing. Later I learnt that I shouldnt have puffed myself up in public. Its not really up to people to say “well done” unless they want to. God sees all. He is the one we should seek approval from not those around us.

Another time that comes to mind (again in Auckland) was when it came to prayer time just after the sermon. One older man always use to say how wonderful I was. I told the Pastor I didnt like it. I think because it drew attention to me. Im not a person that likes to be in the spot light. Anyway I told the Pastor and it stopped.

2. Did it ever occur to you in the 3-way drama of God, Job, and Satan that Satan was the only one outside the loop as far as Job’s reactions would be? Does this encourage you in resolving to make a fool of him when he attempts to use you to defame the Name?

No it never occured to me that Satan was the only one outside the loop. Yes this is a great encouragement. Praise the Lord.

With God on our side like this, how can we lose? (The Message Romans:31)

If God is for us, who can ever be against us? (Romans 8:31 NLT)

3. Are you in a situation now where you feel you are being overcome? Better yet, are you in a situation where you should have been overcome but are not?

No not at the moment. God is good. Also see above verses.

4. Have you failed in a Satan-designed trial? Can you recognize God intends for this failure to refine and resolve you for next time? God is not out for your destruction but your perfection!

I thought so at the time. However, it made me finally lean on God like never before.

5. Can you describe yourself as a Wonders Junkie? Found yourself in spiritual highs and lows depending on whether you perceived God was doing wondrous things or not?

God is good all the time.

6. Have you ever been like Philip and had God right in your face and not recognized Him?

Lots of times. God is always with us its just that sometimes Hes there. He never leaves or forsakes Him. Shame we cant always say the same thing.

I found this tonight Bringing Glory to God in All Circumstances

Mercy Me (Easter) Bring the rain

I can count a million times
People asking me how I
Can praise You with all that
I’ve gone through
The question just amazes me
Can circumstances possibly
Change who I forever am in You

Maybe since my life was changed
Long before these rainy days
It’s never really ever crossed my mind
To turn my back on you, oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times
So I pray

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings
You glory And I know there’ll
be days When this life brings me pain
But if that’s what it takes to
praise You Jesus, bring the rain

I am yours regardless of the clouds that may
loom above because you are much greater than
my pain you who made a way for me suffering
your destiny so tell me whats a little rain

[1st Chorus]

Holy, holy, holy
Holy, holy, holy
is the lord God almighty
is the lord God almighty
I’m forever singing

[2nd Chorus 2x]

everybody singing
Holy holy holy
you are holy
you are holy

[2nd Chorus 2x]

Burning Questions

1. When is the last time you encountered a Fist Shaker? This may be a stranger to you or as close as a loved one in your own home. Does anything in our description help you to understand their animosity towards God? Are you able to have more compassion towards them?

One person in particular comes to mind.  It is years since I encountered this person.  I understand the person has a huge problem with control issues.  I pray for her.

2. Does anything about Rahab’s redemption strike a nerve? This may be a question you would like to ponder privately. Sexual sin and/or victimization can be an area where Satan has an enormous stronghold because it can hold so many painful and shameful memories. If Rahab teaches us anything, please know God can redeem any life and any situation, no matter how heinous it seems, and plant you unashamedly ‘in the midst of Israel’. Rahab deserved death according to Mosaic Law, however she was shown nothing but lovingkindness by the God and nation of Israel.

He is much better than we deserve.  It took me years to believe in God’s Grace.  I am so grateful very day that He loves us and forgives us no matter how badly we screw up.

3. Is there an area of your life in which you feel you have come full circle? Where you’ve come to a place where everything and nothing are the same? (I’m thinking Lord of the Rings when Frodo goes back to the Shire after his long adventure. You have no clue what I just said if you are not an LOTR nerd so just ignore this if it doesn’t make sense! 🙂

LOL shame on me.  I have never seen any of the LOTR movies even though they were made here.

I can remember what I was like before I accepted the Lord and I think He has helped me accept who I am.  I believe that through life experiences He has made me the person I am today particularly when it comes to confidence.

4. When you were born again, did you gain a new appreciation for your surroundings as Rahab did when she received the Promise along with the Promised Land? Has some old place, object, or relationship been redeemed by now serving a ‘high and holy purpose’?

Yes!!! 🙂  We (Lisa and I) have discussed this before.  After I was baptized my surroundings seemed to come alive.  I was aware much more of my surroundings.  I remember looking at leaves in my garden and they came alive to me.  Much more greener than I had ever seen them before.  I believe God opened my eyes to my surroundings and I believe He continues to do so.  I love looking at sunsets and reflecting on His greatness.

5. Believers can still be Fist Shakers. Do you have circumstances in your life in which you find yourself shaking your fist at God? Something He has asked you to endure, asked you to do, seemingly taken away from you? Can you see how shaking your fist is keeping you from your Promise? (I’m not talking eternal security here – Only abundant living.)

There have been a few times when I have asked God why.  I wouldnt say I shook my fist at Him.  But I did ask Him (when I was terribly upset) why he made such and such happen.  He has had to take me to rock bottom a few times but I praise Him as He took me from there to where I am today and I thank Him. He is much better than I deserve and I Love Him.

I WON!!!! :) :) :)

On 10th of July I entered a competition never expecting to win. I dont usually win anything. This morning I went over to the competition site to see who the blessed person was. My eyes nearly popped out of head. I couldnt believe what I was seeing – it was my name.

2996-11.jpg

2,996 is all about honouring the victims of 9/11. I took part last year. I intend to do it again this year. I see this as important and intend to honour a different victim this year. So many innocent lives were lost that day. On September 11, volunteer bloggers will unite to pay tributes to the victims of 9/11. “We will honour them by remembering their lives, and not by remembering their murderers.” (Dale Challener Roe). Dale the founder of this tribute is a writer and his blog can be found here

The tributes should commemorate the lives of these people. Over the previous 6 years we’ve heard the names of the murderers, and all about how it happened. This is a opportunity to find out and honour those who died. “Forget the murderers, they don’t deserve to be remembered.” (Dale Challener Roe) But the innocent victims who died that day do deserve to be remembered. There were 2,996 people that died because of this awful event. Join me in remembering them.

Simply go here and learn how you can join me and many others in remembering these people. They do deserve to be remembered.

Rain Rain Go Away

Im not a winter person.  I prefer to be warm.  I love the sun.  I dont like having to rush out to the car, open it as quickly as I can and getting soaked wet no matter how fast I am.  Might be slightly better if we had a garage but even then Id have to open the door (of the garage).   I dont like not being able to get my washing dry either.  However, it could be worst.  If I lived in other parts of the Hawkes Bay I could be having to cope with this.  I could be stranded in my house as Muzz is.  Or even worse I could be facing my house or car being flooded.

Over the last couple of days  in particular but longer than that altogether the rain has poured and poured and poured some more.  I woke up yesterday morning and looked out my kitchen window there were HUGE puddles in my driveway I just knew there were floods somewhere close.  Then I turned on the internet and the TV and sure enough I was right.  I longed for the Bay I thought I had moved to the sunny Hawkes Bay.  May the sun shine again real soon and I am waiting eagerly for the summer to return to us.  I am not a winter person.

Republishing my thoughts and feelings about punishing our children

I first published my thoughts and feelings about this last week. However, as it was part of a much wider and bigger post I am uncertain how many people saw it and I would like your feedback.

mom_child.jpg

One of my bloggie friends wrote “I can think of many times when I have withheld punishment on my own children in public because of what I thought others would think of me”

mom_child.jpg

As I pointed out to her she is a good mum. I think we are forced to sometimes withhold punishment. I feel we are drawn to do this because of the way the government makes the laws. And how busy bodies feel it is their duty to interfere with a “normal” parent/child interaction. These busy bodies could even be our own children. Whom are resentful for the way they have been parented.

mom_child.jpg

I don’t feel it is right that governments should dictate how we parent our children. Most parents love caring and sensitive to their children’s well being but we are put in a position of being scared about what we can and cannot do because of the law of the land.

mom_child.jpg

I know only too well how our reputations can get tarnished in a blink of an eye. We can be accused of not parenting our children the way some people think we should far too easily and quickly. There has been some discussion over the fact that by correcting our children in public we may be drawing a spectacle of ourselves or them. I don’t think that correcting our children in public however is making a spectacle. If anything it would be our children that would be doing that. They would getting punished because of throwing a patty, or committing a misdemeanor. These activities can not usually be done in a quiet way by a toddler or child. While I do believe in correcting children when they misbehave I also firmly do not believe in shaming children in public. All that does is humiliate them and that teaches them nothing at all. I feel that what should be done is the child should be taken somewhere private and dealt with immediately.

mom_child.jpg

I think with the government (talking about the New Zealand government as I don’t know much about other countries ones) and their laws regarding what a parent is allowed and not allowed to do with their children causes a lot of us to now raise our children in fear. We should be allowed to punish our own children (within reasonable limits) as we see fit. As an aside note it does grieve me to read and hear about some people (whom shouldn’t be parents) abuse their children. But the normal parent wouldn’t do that yet we can’t punish our children without being fearful of the consequences. If we are viewed to be over stepping the mark and may I add is there even a mark these days then we could face our children being taken away from us. In New Zealand even time out is viewed as kidnapping.

mom_child.jpg

However, I fear this will all lead to a generation that have no respect for their elders. To a generation that are not well-behaved and have no self-control. Contrary to what some people believe (even ministers) I do believe that God expects us to punish and correct our children when they misbehave. God’s word says “Spare the rod and spoil the child,” the rod can be an actual smack or our rods of suitable punishment. But it comes back to the original statement can we actually do this because of the way we may be viewed by others???

mom_child.jpg

I do not think that punishing our children in public is “airing ones laundry.” I think that if a child is misbehaving anywhere the parent should have the right to punish and correct that child right there and then. This does not mean I would smack my child in a shop but even taking it to a more private place in a public place may be seen as incorrect. However, for some children to “wait until you get home” lessens the impact of what they have done. And I for one will not stand aside while my child misbehaves. To do so only asks for more trouble. God corrects us because He loves us. I love my children therefore I punish and correct them when they do wrong. But deep within me is that fear of how it may be viewed. What the consequences may be (to my family and I) if I simply correct my child in a public place. Any place really if someone views how I am raising my children as not correct in their eyes.

mom_child.jpg

What do you think and feel about this???

prayhandspat.gifThe Power of Prayerprayhandspat.gif

Father, I ask you to bless my friends
reading this right now.
Lord, show them a new revelation
of Your love and power.

prayersml.jpg

Holy Spirit, I ask You to minister
to their spirit at this very moment.
Where there is pain, give them
Your peace and mercy.
Where there is self doubting,
release a renewed confidence in
Your ability to work through them.
Where there is tiredness, or exhaustion,
I ask You to give them understanding,
patience, and strength as they learn
submission to Your leading.

prayersml.jpg

Where there is spiritual stagnation,
I ask You to renew them by revealing
Your nearness, and by drawing them into
greater intimacy with You. Where there is
fear, reveal Your love, and release to them
Your courage. Where there is a sin
blocking them, reveal it, and break its
hold over my friend’s life.

prayersml.jpg

Bless their finances, give them greater vision,
and raise up leaders, and friends to support,
and encourage them. Give each of them discernment
to recognize the demonic forces around them, and
reveal to them the power they have in You to defeat it.
I ask You to do these things in Jesus’ name.
